Parent Participation

Parents are encouraged to be supportive and active participants in providing quality listening opportunities and allowing adequate practice at home. It is vital that the parent (or responsible adult) attend, take notes and quietly observe student’s private session.

Practice and Instrument

All students are expected to practice their assigned lesson daily, including warm-up, with proper posture and/or seating. It is highly recommended that students have a regular listening schedule, in addition to practice, to listen to recordings of their current repertoire.

Materials Needed

  • A sturdy bag to carry books to and from instruction sessions.

  • A full-size notebook for note-takers is needed to write suggestions/goals for each week.

  • Instructional books and materials. These must be purchased/obtained by the student or student’s family.

Enrollment, Tuition & Payment

Enrollment is by semester. The nonrefundable registration fee is paid at the time of enrollment. Tuition payment rates are based on student’s age, level, and when the payment is received by the teacher. Payments can be made in 1 or 2 installments per semester. All payments must be made in advance or on the first day of the student’s session.

Calendar & Schedule

The tuition rates are determined based on 5- or 6-month semesters, depending on which month the student begins instruction. Six-month semesters (19 private sessions) begin in January and July, five month semesters begin in September and February (16 private sessions).

Missed Sessions

No portion of tuition is refundable due to missed sessions. Due to the teacher's limited availability, only 1-2 make-up sessions per semester will be offered (depending upon chosen semester length). Make-up sessions must adhere to the schedule and be agreed upon in advance.

Discontinuing Instruction

Every student discontinues music instruction at some point. Ideally, this decision is made thoughtfully with plenty of discussion between the teacher, parent, and student so that instruction can cease with a positive sense of closure.

Studio Recital

Each year, there are two scheduled recitals for students and their parents. Recitals are typically held Sunday afternoons, with rehearsals held the Saturday morning before the recital. Performance attire is “Sunday best.”

Other Performance and/or Learning Opportunities

In addition to recitals, students will have other performance and learning opportunities. The performance opportunities will typically have no extra charge. The learning opportunities will most likely have an extra charge (i.e. National Guild, Royal Conservatory, etc.)

Virtual Sessions

To prevent extended interruption in the student’s music study, SKYPE/FACETIME sessions are accepted and also may be necessary due to inclement weather, unforeseen circumstances and teacher travel. These sessions will be scheduled ahead of time.

Image Release

One of the best ways to commend students and their families for their hard work and accomplishments is through social media; student and parent/guardian will be asked to choose their image release permission level.
